about last year's festival....
Together, the Cape Cod Cranberry
Growers’ Association and the
A.D. Makepeace Company co-hosted
the Third Annual Harvest
Celebration.With the cooperation
of Mother Nature, the
celebration was a great success.
Approximately 10,000 people from
the local community and across
the nation came to witness the
beauty surrounding the cranberry
harvest.
Those that attended the
celebration experienced the
Massachusetts cranberry
tradition combined with various
activities for the whole family,
from wagon & pony rides to face
& pumpkin painting. While
listening to the live
entertainment, visitors strolled
through the farmers market,
which featured juried crafts,
artwork, and handcrafted
jewelry.
Last year’s cooking
demonstrations featured some new
guests. Frank Terranova joined
Lynne Tripp, who is an associate
professor in the College of
Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales
University, along with her
students, for a day of cooking
demonstration on Saturday.
Terranova is host of Cooking
with Class® on Channel 10, the
NBC affiliate in Providence and
an associate instructor at the
College of Culinary Arts at
Johnson & Wales University.
Sunday’s cooking demonstration
featured Henry Bousquet,
chef/owner of Cobblestone
Restaurant in New Bedford and
coordinator of the First Annual
New Bedford Seaport Chowder
Festival.
Attendees were educated about
the cranberry industry in
Massachusetts by our tour guides
as they made their way down by
bus to Frogfoot Bog. Once at the
bog, guests were able to view
various aspects of cranberry
harvesting. From crews using
picking machines, to the berries
being loaded. Visitors were also
able to get an aerial view of
the cranberry harvest from the
helicopter rides that were
available.
